"diwan bhasha and pustaka"

This morning has been a rather emotional one while I browsed through the various blogs and read a very private e-mail from a fellow Taipingite now residing overseas.

What got me thinking is the statement by this dashing son of the former premier, Mukhriz. Yes, what he spoke is very commendable and refreshing. God.... how I pray what he says is sincere !

Malaysia is a failed nation and everyone knows about the "failed unity" he is talking about. But what about the remedies and action plans he has and how far can he go to make that change ? Haven't we all been accused of being hypocrites just because we write in English and not in Malay ? Nobody knows that I can hold a decent conversation, let alone write in bahasa, pretty well, yes ? Just because I feel more comfortable expressing my views in English does not make me any less a Malaysian ! read just one of my posting back in January 2007- here

Funny how my friend NaSTyBob's timely email pointed out to me recently that even our supreme Dewan (Persian for "administration") Bahasa (Sanskrit for "language") dan Pustaka (Sanskrit for "book") is so so.... foreign. And what about UMNO....United Malay National Organisation ....in English too yes ? So there !

Nobody wants to talk of improving the deteriorating quality and standards of National Type Schools first, but everyone is in arms over vernacular education ! Why ? Should we not all be proud of our respective mother tongues and not be labelled as traitors ??

The previous government of 22 years and during Anwar's tenure in BN screwed the system first. Then the modification and spins in our history books created further screws to mould a nation into thinking (not allowing "reasonable" thinking ) that some were lesser beings. Then the systematic segregation of the various races (in asramas) and religious bigots penetrated the education syllabus, replacing civics and moral studies that was for all irrespective of race during my time in the 60's and early 70's was put into motion !! Then came the quota system !

By then we were, as a multi-cultural nation- totally fcuked ! It seemed then, as what the older generation perceived, the best education was to go back to their vernacular schools that were still aplenty ! With added ignorance by certain factions of the population and no thanks to the
politicians, who were supposedly deemed superior then others, the racial divide grew and the emergence of racists abounded in our society !

Now comes this hopeful son of the former premier to breath some fresh air into an already failed nation ! First he must stop this Malay and non-Malay talk.
Talk and refer all as MALAYSIANS ! Then start civics and moral classes from Std One ! Dump the quota system and qualifications for admission to higher learning universities and employment is by merit ONLY ! Leave religious classes be lessons taught after school and in suraus, temples and churches during week-ends ! Back in my days they did a wonderful job there in shaping model citizens, (when in the evenings after all the playing and a bath, you can see kids walking....mind you walking in groups because everyone was poor and without having to fear arse-hole bandits, snatch-thieves or kidnappers) respecting each and every of his fellow neighbours ! Can Mukhriz rock the boat or stir the hornet's nest of all those in such comfortable and superior zones ???

This has to be addressed first (the education system) before we can even talk about leaders of any race in the highest position, serving our nation....everyone as one- Malaysians ! Then Mukhriz, you have my vote !
I, in the meantime remain, an anak bangsa Malaysia !

Now I need to go for a roken (that's Dutch for rokok, stupid...to smoke !)
Have a good "thinking" weekend !

Actually the meritocracy is the end line of our education system.

Why are we not question the beginning of the line?

We have a set of vernacular schools and of course the national schools.

Are the Chinese and Indians willing to abolish the Chinese and Tamil schools and enrol their children whole heartedly in national schools?

That we have to ask the Chinese and Indians before we ask for meritocracy.

It is like a racist calling another a racist.

Also, we must challenge organizations like Hua Zong, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Malay Chamber of Commerce, Dong Jiao Zong and various other organizations.

That will really lead us to being sincere about forming a Malaysian Malaysia.

Otherwise, it is a racist calling another a racist.

Our educational standard has gone from bad to worse, judging from the way the government is inflating the exam results. Just look at the number of As pupils are scoring. Nowadays an average student takes home at least a few As. You are labelled an average student if you score about 5As. If the number of distinctions is any guide, then Malaysian would surely be the No 1 in the Nobel Prize rankings. As it is, the country's universities rank among the lowest in the world. It shows that our As have no value. This year, one student scored 20As (god knows how she did it). Next year expect 30As. By 2012 expect students to get 100As! Cheers from Tanjong Rambutan Pub where distinctions are given on merit - which means the more beer you consume, the more As. By the way I just scored eight As. Cheers.
