At the Bkt Jalil Stadium on 11th May Najib told a crowd of freeloaders and rent collectors that only UMNO can defend Islam. Now, judging by the Transparency International index and other international standards UMNO's Malaysia is one of the most corrupted countries in the world. The bulk of the Petronas oil revenue has been devoured by a black hole --- and probably gone through a wormhole into the pockets of UMNO big wigs and their cronies. UNMO which is the de facto government derives much of its revenue for funding public services from taxes levied on alcohol and gambling. Recent documents filed with a French court shows that Najib allegedly demanded U$D 1 billion in kickbacks for Perimekar from the French naval defence firm DCNS. To date he has not offered to testify at the court or otherwise use legal remedies to clear his name. And although two of his bodyguards murdered the pregnant Altantuya in cold blood, Najib pretends that he had no contact whatsoever with her.

From time to time international ngo's have accused Malaysia of being a centre for people smuggling. Government machinery has been used time and again to assassinate the characters of political opponents, tarring them with odious unfounded sex scandals being the standard practice. In the light of all this how can UMNO be the defender of Islam? If Najib persists in making the ludicrous claim, then why can't we say that Mona Fandey (1956 2001) the demonic serial killer was also a defender of Islam? Or maybe a Somali pirate would be a more apt candidate. Najib also said that only UMNO can defend the rights of the Malays... But who is a Malay. Iskandar Kuttys from Kerala, Mericans from Tamil Nadu and the hundred of thousands of instant Bumiputras from Indonesia are all classified as Malays. Other than being a part of UMNO's fascistic agenda, this idea of 'Malay' and the absurd division of Malaysian society into Bumis and non Bumis have no support in law, history or anthropology.

Have right thinking Malaysians to go to a French court to expose UMNO's empty racist and inflammatory agenda? Anyway, I am of the opinion that an enterprising NGO should seek a ruling on this issue at the International Court of Justice.

The Pariah deserves our ultimate strictures. John Adams' principle, 'A government of laws not of men' is explained in Yahoo Answers:"It means that laws are to be interpreted objectively, not reread by individuals and are to be applied to everyone without regard for their positions, reputations or personal relationships with others. A government of men, on the other hand, would be one that is subjective, depending on the relationship of those enforcing the laws and those against whom the laws might be enforced." Respect for the Law is diminishing among Malaysians generally. Ponderous ad hoc pronouncements of what the law is by UMNO bigwigs and their hangers-on --- often by people with little or no legal training --- have contributed to this state of affairs. One should not be surprised to find a large portion of caprice in these pronouncements.

More ominous is the selective application of the law.Photos of a Federal Minister's son cavorting with semi- naked women and drinking alcohol have been scattered throughout the internet. His deeds come under the Khalwat and Haram offences but he has not been investigated. On the other hand Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the leader of the opposition is being mercilessly hounded for an unfounded accusation of sexual impropriety... In another context respected lawyer Sivarasa has said that uneven - handed enforcement of the law by the Police may cause disgruntled citizens to seek private redress.

re TUNKU ABDUL AZIZ' EXIT FROM THE DAP

The UMNO Government under Najib --- actually, a school of human piranhas --- has made graft and corruption an major branch of their state-craft. If the nation's economy is anaemic and if there are very many citizens living under the poverty line, these are the result of the looting by UMNO and its hangers on. I might think of supporting Najib if they including those retired from office would return all their ill-gotten wealth to the Raayat.
