The NST's Insider.

I didn't believe it when someone said the NST - yes, Kalimullah Hassan's fledgling tabloid - is french-kissing the new media and blogs. Read this article by Lee Siew Lian, this friend said.

So I did and, sheesh! WTF! I told this moronic friend of mine that if the NST writer wanted to pay tribute to blogs and the new media, she should be more sincere.

Lee Siew Lian was only interested in promoting one thing - the malaysian insider.
Scores of new sites and blogs sprung up during the general election fever, and the NST was promoting ONE site other then Malaysiakini. And everyone knows which are the most visited or "hit" blogs ! Not even Malaysia Today or rockybru had any billing, but this site....hmmmm...honestly I never knew of it until today !

Sheeeeesh. Know what? I found that all the staff at the malaysian insider, save for Leslie Lau, were all former NST journalists.
One of them, Joan Lau is an employee of Fox Communications, which is run by Brenden Pereira, Kali's machai and KJ's good friend. (Or perhaps she quit Fox after just a few months ?)

And you know what else?
This writer and Leslie Lau are newly-weds.

Now what the hell is NST trying to do? How can a writer be allowed to promote/advertise and sell and glorify a business concern which involves her own husband and sister-in-law?
Come on, Kali, where's the professionalism? Are we promoting cronyism and nepotism in and through the New Staid Times now?

And to think folks pay good money to buy this paper ! Over to you... people, you decide !

p.s. take a look at more "spins" by Dave here

SHANG, a drowning man clutches at any straw...no choices mah....after the demise of MonsterBlog, they conceived this Insider for the GE. and yet they swore that blogs dont play any part in the recent GE. when you can swim amongst the sharks you drink too much water and may drown. but the NST will do a CPR and come out with another website.Just good luck to them....even running dogs can get tired running.

C'mon lah, Fish-man... u should know by now that nepotism is like the new meritocracy... heh heh...

Well, this person stopped buying the NaSTy Paper a long time ago...

But NST embrace cyberspace? Based on that one article? Naaah... just regurgitating facts of the matter, while at the same time skillfully remaining loyal to the BN paymasters...

What NST has done with this article is merely stating the obvious - that cyberspace is the vehicle of change. The bigger picture is that we're seeing (IMHO) is a seismic paradigm shift in the political landscape... and as far as this bigger picture is concerned, NST remains oblivious, choosing instead to pander to their political masters, resplendent in the embers of a dying paradigm...

Congratulation Yang Amat Berhormat but your JOB just started.

Take care and good luck.

This MSM writer don’t understand that the reason people look for blogs is not because is easily accessible through net but because they wanna read something that don’t support the governement blindly!!!

I have read certain articles in the Insider.Personally,I think that the site is quite informative. I especially relished reading the blurb with re to KJ's diminished aura and his unceremonious descension in the aftermath of the 'tsunami'.

I do not personally know Kali, nor Leslie et al mentioned above in your blog. However, I do know that there are two camps - those for Kali and conversely, others for Rocky after the latter's boot from the MM stable. As a lay person, I am on neither side - not being privy to what had actually transpired.

What I do know is that there will be 'cronies' from either side touting each others blogs/writings. For example, you,Zorro, Nuraina,Tok Mummy,Shar and others may give a plug (or two) for one another in your respective blogs. Similarly, those on the other camp may do likewise. For lay readers who are on the lookout for good reads, its all fine by us. Its OK if one side or the other inform us of their 'cronies' blogs. Blog readers win.

Ultimately, discerning readers decide which is fluff,or not.

Thank you,Shanghai Fish.

Tiger Woodie.

I really want to hear what the previous ministers who said "bloggers are unemployed women who do not have anything better to do" has to say about this.

As for the MSM,I rest my case lah. Waste of time only.

Yo SS,

MalaysianInsider or MalaysiaVotes, both are parachut... ahh.. parasite on-liners who think they got what it takes to outreach.

Most of us bloggers are doing it pro-bono therefore I doubt if these highly paid ex-writers/journos can sustain their newfound passion within the cyberworld. Anywayz, check out their funding and you'll get to the 'hidden hand'.

Still, as Tiger Woodie pointed out, let's rumble with these pseudo bloggers on our turf and if the court of public opinion benefits, we would have achieved an informed readership which ultimately is the prize.

P.S. I plug for you, meh? Are we related, bro?

aiyaaa ... all she said was that the two blogs crashed, which is a good indicator of traffic. i surfed that night too, and the blogs you mentioned were accessible. this means they did not crash. this means either they have great capacity, or they did not have high traffic. another theory is that people could have gone direct to the source, as you fav blog tends to only direct traffic to other sites, with nothing concrete written on the blog itself.
cheers

"I found that all the staff at the malaysian insider, except one Leslie Lau and their Net expert called Dinesh, were all former NST journalists"
From where do you get the info that Dinesh (Nair) is 'their' net expert? What is 'their'? Dinesh was mentioned in connection with Malaysiakini, not with the 'Insider'.
I happen to know Dinesh, and as far as I can guess, he wouldn't want to join NST.

To be honest, I was wary of the Malaysian Insider site right from the start. They claimed all kinds of exclusive intelligence info (most of it, IMHO, not worth paying atention to) On my blog, I wrote that "The Malaysian Insider website that appeared for the first time around nomination day claimed to receive their info directly from BN intelligence sources and they were steadfastly sure that BN would win big. Their last call was that BN would win 81% of seats and take all states back."

My suspicion was that it was planted to sway people. Your findings appear to bolster my view.

The Insider is like a retirement home of ex-journos, no different from old horses put to pasture. Even while at NST, their writing skills left much to be desired. And then, some bloggers like Rocky and The Scribe have forgotten that they are what they are today because of NST, and are biting the hand that fed them well... Blog readers: Be cautious of what you read as these people all have ulterior motives and may not be sincere in their writing.

To anon of 6:38 ,
Thank you for pointing out the fact and I do apologise for connecting Dinesh Nair with malaysian insider. And to Dinesh, please accept my sincere apology.
The posting has been amended accordingly.Cheers and Thank you.

Mr Fish, do be more careful next time abt your facts, ok? I hope all your other allegations are true, cos truth is your greatest defence in the event that you get sued by NST or any of the names you mentioned.

And dear Kash,
Did they really say 81 per cent?

No wonder Pak Lah believed the BN was going to be victorious in Kelantan and Penang - and win them Big - right up to polling Day. His advisers are so out of touch.

Listen to Keng Yaik, Pak Lah, and sack them all!

I kinda like msianinsider. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who's behind a blog/news portal. Just read intelligently. Don't take everything you read on the net or mainstream to be the gospel truth.
everybody's got their spin, pet peeves, prejudices etc.
So peace ho
