Are we beyond redemption ?

I feel terribly insulted to read this story of a poll carried out by the "Expat" magazine regarding the deploring state of one of our nations' front-liners....TAXI-DRIVERS ! read here for the full story and comments.

Now if only the powers-that-be had listened to the rakyat or had read my blog first back in September 2006 and again recently about 2 weeks ago and also in numerous other blogs ! Sigh......... read here and here !

Do we need to be shamed for our "short-comings" by foreigners and in a poll too ?? What would take the authorities to listen to the pleading voices of the simple man-in-the-street ??

Let's not get defensive but do the pro-active (this word has been generously used for all the wrong reasons !) thinggy and prove to these "expats" we can indeed change and bring to book by educating this disgraceful profession called taxi-services and their taxi-drivers
and redeem the faith of the "expats" in Malaysia !!

We dont have to ask the Expats. Ask any normal Joe on the street and ask them to recall a "PLEASANT" encounter with a
Malaysia cab driver. Pfft! Not to say la, all cab drives are horrible. BUT. Still a LOT needs to be done and it is a long draggy problem already.

Hi Godpa, I take the taxi to tuition from school.. Some of them are just charging a price and not using the meter... Some of them even ones RM 5o just to go to PS...

It's a sad scenario but I can't agree more...
the taxis drivers often refuse to take passangers if their destination is out of the way that they have already planned to go.
Somemore, they charged the passangers according to their liking. So you have different taxis with different fares but same destination.
And if they are able to sense your desperation-late for work, etc. or if you are new to the place you're going, be prepared to pay a huge-ridiculous fare!
believe me....i've been through it SEVERAL TIMES before.

KL probably has one of the worst taxi drivers in the world, they are rude, poorly educated and a cheat.

Just go across the causeway and see how the government there disciplined the taxi drivers.

To Singapore for weekend Friday night - that is after two taxis refused to take us from Kenanga Point to KL Sentral. he third was that rare breed - honest, amusing nice guy using meter.
On return at 12.05am today (train 2 hours late!)KL Sentral Teksi Ticket office closed so open slather on the rank. Five refused at all to Kenanga Point - not far enough. Two wanted RM20.Finally one guy accepted but said after midnight so RM12 which was reasonable at that time (thank u KTMB).
Great - he could not shut up speaking in Malay to my friend (I only speak English) so I just heard 'Anwar' every 30 seconds. Frustrating is not half the right word! Cabbie was great and my frustrations ended when friend finally got chance to tell me the news of Anwar at Turkish Embassy etc etc.
There are some great cabbies - but not a fraction of what is required.

The contrast with Singapore cabs is too daunting to bear repetition. Our first there had us laughing out loud for most of the 10 minute trip to hotel - we were even singing God Save the Queen at one stage, tho I cannot remember why or how we got to that! On return yesterday afternoon I suggested we see the proposed Grand Prix circuit. No prob he said, and we took off as tho Lewis Hamilton was at the wheel. Great fun and an eye-opener - this will be a great circuit, day or night!
