Well finally it's come full circle, right ? This club along Jalan Pudu, behind the once Pudu Prison has been a heritage feature for as long as the Eurasian community in Malaysia can remember. Graced by former royalties, famous personalities and even a "First" lady.....Jean Danker Abdullah, a Eurasian and wife of a former premier affectionately known as Pak Lah.
Promises of letting this historic clubhouse remain and even gaining heritage status has not helped the BN government under Najib to still "boot" the Eurasians out of their "home" in the city. Proposals to resettle the clubhouse in either Shah Alam or Putrajaya is a definite no-no for most of it's members as music, dancing and alcohol are the main reasons for keeping the dwindling Eurasian community of the city together. And both the suggested places are deemed "haram" to all the above activities within.
Talk of extending their current stay indefinitely is in order I hear, but why should they even move in the first place ? This "indefinite stay" decision has put this clubhouse's status in limbo. Why ? Has this BN government no respect for it's minority citizens ? 1Malaysia, my foot ! Elections is around the corner and imagine the entire Eurasian community throwing their precious votes the PR way !
Oh...of course people like the chief minister of Malacca, Ali Rastam would choose his words carefully if he were to say to the Eurasian community to "go to hell"...like he did to that shameless Kayveas and his stupid PPP...but even Rastam wouldn't want to mess with the Eurasian community mostly because the Portuguese community of Malacca who make up the bulk of this club's membership, would whip Rastam's ass to high heaven...errh...hell, come the next GE, no ?
So the ball is in the BN court, now that this small and peaceful community has been pushed against the wall so come this Saturday 23rd. June 2012, they will protest just like all angered and belittled citizens, peacefully holding candles demanding the BN government not to mess with them. Maybe even take to the streets donned in yellow, I hope.
And to rub salt into it all ......the Eurasians of Malaysia and from the Portuguese settlement are BUMIPUTRAS too ! I may not be a member of that community, but I will stand by their RIGHT to protest.
All those who think it is their right to protest, come and lend your support as per the info on the above "open" invite.
p.s. click on image for clearer view. And as for the title of this post, why 14th. vigil you might want to ask ? Remember, that's the number of candlelight vigils I attended for the "abolisment of the ISA" until the 13th vigil, before many were arrested for singing the national anthem holding candles.
