Dear Stephen, I am sure you are confused as you sometimes claim to be Irish and also try to confuse us by alternating between other nationalities.
Here in Malaysia, we wish our Hindu friends Happy DEEPAVALI. It has always been that, always will be.
Welcome to Malaysia.

Have no doubt, my dear Kelong Jimmy....having travelled there a couple of times and drinking Irish single-malt or Kilkenny's doesn't make me Irish.
But have you noticed the different variations to the spelling
...erh...or have you not?
Pay attention next time please. Anyways have a "Happy Diwali" yourself....and cheers ? perchance going "fishing" to the wharf tonight ??
Cheers !

south indians say deepavali, north indians say diwali

Deepavali is Tamil. Diwali is Hindi. Haven't come across the other words before. Perhaps from some other Indian dialects?? Perhaps created by someone confused like you?? No idea.

deepavali is the right term, diwali is a shorter(corrupted) term used just as x'mas instead of christmas.

Good that more people pointed it out to the confused Shanghainese fish.
Take a look at this explanation on Express Buzz

http://www.expressbuzz.com/edition/story.aspx?Title=Deepavali+is+not+Diwali&artid=jJBvK1BKme0=&SectionID=lifojHIWDUU=&MainSectionID=wIcBMLGbUJI=&SectionName=rSY|6QYp3kQ=&SEO=

If I wasn't confused earlier, I am now.. They are saying Deepavali in Tamil Nadu and Diwali in other states of India, are different celebrations!!!!!!

Thank god for MALAYSIA!!!
